Ideas for rear brake pads/rotors Sat, 24 July 2010 19:42 Go to next message
Time to change the rear brake pads in my 2004 s40 LSE.
I have noticed that they're are several brake pad companies such as Hawk, EBC, Akebono, Textar, Dan-Block (roulunds),PBR, and TRW.
As for rotors..Brembo and Zimmerman.

I was wondering what the members on here can tell me from experience and what they would do in this situation....

-Which ones work best with OEM rotors?

-Should i go ahead and change out to slotted or drilled rotors while im changing the pads? Any diff in performance/wear between these options?

-Which ones would work best with Slotted/drilled rotors?

-And if someone has had expererience with EBC, is there a significant difference in green vs red stuff?

Generally, im looking for the best performance, least noise, and least wear and tear...if they can go together that would be great. Any advice would be appreciated since its needed soon.

I f you are going to change just the rear rotors, it is highly recommended to replace all 4 because other wise you'll have uneven wear and uneven performace, I use Bendix pads they are the best bang for the buck and they last very veeery long...

ahhh bendix another brand i forgot to mention..i think akebono, bendix and ebc all have the slot in the middle which i think is good for heat desapation.

bendix, you think thats the best for non slotted oem rotors? ill take your word for it.

What you think will work best with slotted ones? if you were gonna go with slotted and/or drilled rear rotors which pads would you use, and which ones would you use for stock oem brembo or zimmerman rotors R1ckso?

I used mintex pads with brembro cross drilled disc. The pads last me about 50k miles. I don't abuse the brake

hey bro, I would still use bendix on the cross/slotted rotors simply because they are very veeeeeeeeery cheap and they last very long!! if you want the best performance putting aside price any carbon pad will do the job but I think green stuff is good, don't know about red stuff either...

Thanks, i didnt think ceramic was for performance stopping power but more for durability, low noise level and brake dust. Im intrigued by EBC, i think most people are haha but im feelin you on the bendix so its really up to me right? hmm decisions decisions...plus 1 for bendix anybody ride one EBC'S ever?

Not much of a performance improvement until you get a big brake kit. You can change to better brake fluid and pads, that will make a big differences.
